UKP22,000 per annum plus benefits

The Pictures section consists of curators, conservators, specialist
framers and art handlers who are responsible for the management,
safety, conservation, display and interpretation of the 8,000
paintings and 3,000 miniatures within the Royal Collection.

The role: Based at the Paintings Conservation Studio in Windsor, but
covering all Royal residences across the UK, you will be part of the
team responsible for the full condition survey of paintings and
frames. This will involve:

    Carrying out the preparation of frames and framing of paintings
    to conservation standards

    Ensuring the safe handling, wrapping and movement of paintings

    Treating the fronts of frames for structural repairs where
    necessary

    Recording all frame treatments carried out, including a detailed
    frame diagram

    Working with and supervising Household colleagues and external
    art and transport companies when preparing, wrapping,
    transporting and installing paintings

    Internally transporting pictures and frames between Royal
    residences

The Person

    With moderate art handling experience, preferably gained from a
    similar role, you will ideally be a Fine Arts graduate

    Your interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range
    of people will enable you to quickly build collaborative
    relationships

    You will possess administration, organisation and planning
    skills

    You will have excellent IT skills and be familiar with
    collections management databases

    With some knowledge of conservation requirements, an
    understanding of weights and the potential stresses on walls,
    frames and paintings would be an advantage

    With a full UK driving license you will be flexible and
    available to travel widely across the UK, occasionally working
    away from home

The closing date for applications is 15 December 2013. Interviews
will take place at Windsor in January 2014, with a view to the
appointment commencing in early/mid-March 2014.
